Key Stage 1 Year 1 & 2

Important Information

Welcome to Key Stage 1! We have three classes: Wem (Year 1), Newport (Year 1/2) and Ludlow (Year 2).

Key Stage 1 is an exciting and important stage in your child’s learning journey. We build on the foundations from the Early Years and helps children grow into confident, independent learners.

At this stage, children develop key skills in reading, writing and mathematics, while also exploring a broad and engaging curriculum including science, art, history, geography, computing and physical education. Through creative lessons, practical activities and purposeful play, we nurture curiosity, resilience and a love of learning.

In Key Stage 1, we focus on helping every child feel happy, supported and proud of their achievements as they take important steps towards becoming lifelong learners.

Our class P.E days are:
Wem- Tuesday and Wednesday
Newport- Wednesday and Thursday
Ludlow- Monday and Wednesday
The children need to come into school wearing their Radbrook P.E kit, ready to go!

Reading and homework Expectations:
Every Friday your children are sent home with 2x ReadWriteInc. books. If your child has come off ReadWriteInc, they will be sent home with a colour banded book which can be changed once finished with. These books are to be read daily with adult guidance.

Your child will be given a blue homework book. Within this you will find a set of spellings to be completed daily. Year 2 children are also given additional times table homework.

Every Friday your child will take part in a spelling test which will review the spellings from within the week. These will be completed in their homework books (so it is essential these are brought into school).
