Emergency School Closure Information for Parents
Sometimes severe weather or unexpected problems can make it unsafe for school to open. We want to make sure parents know exactly how we make these decisions and how we will keep you informed.
How decisions are made
A decision to close the school is only taken when:
- The site cannot be accessed safely
- There is damage to buildings
- Essential utilities (such as heating, water or electricity) are unavailable
We always aim to stay open wherever possible, but safety must come first.
How you will be informed
If the school needs to close, we will let parents know as soon as possible through:
- A text via School Gateway
- Social media once text has been sent
Shropshire Council will also update their School Closures webpage, and local radio stations will broadcast closure information throughout the morning.
When decisions are made
We aim to make closure decisions early in the morning. Shropshire Council asks schools to report closures between 6.00 am and 7.30 am, so that information can be shared before most families begin their journeys.
If the school closes during the day
If conditions worsen after school has opened, we may need to close early. If this happens:
- We will contact parents immediately and advise on a time children will be released into their care and where from.
- Children will only be released once we know they can be collected or have safe supervision
